Crude bomb blast at Kolkata medical college; 2 injured

Kolkata, Jun 30: A minor crude bomb blast has hit Kolkata today (Saturday). The incident happened in the National Medical college triggering off a minor fire. Two hospital employees are reported to have been injured in the blast. Fire tenders have been rushed to the area to douse the fire. The blast occurred around 8 am and the explosives were reportedly kept on a bicycle near an outdoor emergency ward.

Two sweepers of the hospital suffered injuries in the blast. According to sources, the explosive carbide material was placed in a plastic container and went off when the hospital employees shook it.

The bomb squad has been rushed to the spot and hospital services have been briefly stalled.

Latest reports suggest that a petrol bomb might have been used in the bomb blast in Kolkata. The Medical College Principal Shiddhartha Chakraborty said normal hospital services were not affected.
