Cong slams UPA's friend Mulayam; calls him BJP's agent
Alvi has been quoted as saying, "I have been saying this for the past 10 years - Mulayam Singh Yadav is the biggest agent of the BJP. He dances to the tunes of the saffron party."
The comment has not gone down well with the SP, with SP MP Shahid Siddiqui demanding an explanation from the Congress for the comment and that he must issue an apology for the same. With the Congress in a love hate relationship with the SP at the moment, the comment made by Alvi will have serious repercussions. Alvi will need to give some serious explanation to the Congress for creating a controversy and attacking Mulayam in a brazen manner.
It has to be remembered that Mulayam and his party had offered his support the Congress' Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee. He had ditched West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's decision to back Abdul Kalam as the Presidential nominee to stick with the UPA in times of turmoil. The SP is giving outside support to the UPA at the moment.
Alvi made this comment during the campaigning for the local body elections in Uttar Pradesh. Later clarifying his fiery comment, Alvi said that he was aware of the SP's support to the UPA on Presidential poll, but he made the said comment in the context of the election where SP and the Congress were pitted against each other.
