Facebook post sparks protest in Meerut

Meerut, June 18: Violence broke out in the town as members of a community pelted stones and damaged some shops protesting against an objectionable post about a particular religion on social-networking site Facebook.

Agitated over a photo posted on the site, the protestors held demonstration outside the office of SP city at Ghantaghar area and also damaged some shops in the area, police said. As tension erupted in the area, the shopkeepers closed their shops.

A police team reached the spot and pacify the agitators. Police said the post has been removed and investigations are on to nab the culprit. The situation has been brought under control, they added.
