Gen VK Singh on clean-up drive; sends notice to Lt Gen

Gen VK Singh
New Delhi, May 24: The Army Chief General VK Singh wants to rid the Indian Army of any wrong doing before he retires from the top post on May 31. Towards this clean-up effort, Singh has sent a showcause notice to Lt General Dalbir Singh Suhag who is expected to be the Army Chief in 2014 after the tenure of next-in-line chief Lt General Bikram Singh.

As per the notice served, Gen Singh has alleged the Lt Gen of "(his) unprofessional and lackadaisical manner" in handling an intelligence unit under his command that allegedly carried out a botched up operation. The failed intelligence operation was understood to have carried out in Assam in December.

Gen VK Singh had recently stirred a hornet’s nest after he alleged bribery charges and the army’s preparedness. Lt Gen Dalbir Singh is presently the Commander of the 3 Corps which functions under the Eastern Army Command headed by the next Army Chief Bikram Singh. Gen VK Singh had earlier sought a CBI probe against Dalbir Singh that was turned down.
