Man attempts to burn alive pregnant wife

Inspector RG Mhatre of the Hill Line police station of Ulhasnagar township said today that the accused Allamin Saddam Samir Mandal, 28, originally from West Bengal was married to Manina Begum, 20, of Assam some three years back.
Later, Mandal fell for another young woman from the township and started ignoring his wife. The couple lived at Katai near Kalyan and had shifted to the limits of the Hill line police station about a week ago.
Inspector Mhatre said that according to a complaint lodged with the police, the accused and his wife who was eight months pregnant were in frequent quarrels as she was upset with Mandal ignoring her and was in affair with another lady.
The accused then thought of getting rid of his wife and yesterday afternoon he pushed his wife in the bathroom, poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze. However, she resisted and managed to save herself. The accused fled the scene thereafter.
The police has registered offences under sections 307, 323 and 504 against the accused and launched a manhunt for him.
