Mamata Banerjee SRK
Kolkata, May 18: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday appealed to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to reconsider its decision to ban Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan from entering the Wankhede Stadium for five years.

The MCA on Friday banned Khan, co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), one of the teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL), following his spat with officials after the conclusion of the KKR-Mumbai Indians match at the Wankhede ground on Wednesday night.

"We love Maharashtra, the capital of India's business. From Sachin to Shah Rukh, we love all. Shah Rukh is our brand ambassador," Banerjee said, adding she was not sure whether it would be right for her to comment on the matter for it was another state's business.

"I will request them to reconsider the decision for there might be some emotional aspects involved in the entire episode. He had gone to the stadium with children. There must have been some misunderstanding," she added.

The Bengal CM also appealed to the media not to distort her statement for the issue was a sensitive one.

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav also supported SRK, saying the MCA's decision was not right.
