Robert Kennedy Jr's estranged wife Mary found dead in NY

New York, May 17: Tragedy struck the Kennedy family when Mary Richardson Kennedy, estranged wife of Robert F Kennedy Jr was found dead in her home on Wednesday. She was suffering from

and

addiction issues. The exact reason for death is not yet revealed. The autopsy is scheduled on Thursday.

The 52-year-old Mary had divorced her husband in 2010, while they got married in 1994. She married Robert Kennedy Jr, who is a prominent environmental lawyer and the son of Sen. Robert F Kennedy and nephew of President John F Kennedy. The couple had four children.

A statement issued by Robert Kennedy Jr's chief of staff described Mary as a 'a genius at friendship'. The family commented on the demise, “Mary inspired our family with her kindness, her love, her gentle soul and generous spirit. We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation.”

Mary Kennedy was accomplished in her own right as an architect and designer and played a major role in the renovation of the couple's home into an environmentally advanced showpiece.

Mary’s addiction with drugs and alcohol had landed her in jail twice as well. She was first arrested on May 15, 2010 on charges of driving under the influence where she was found driving on the curb near the family's Bedford home. Her license was suspended eventually. The next instance occurred when she was found under the influence of drugs. The charge was, however, dismissed by the judge after no evidence was found.
