UP: Baby girl buried alive; parents arrested for brutal act

Pilakhuwa (UP), May 10: With the brutal treatment meted out to Baby Afreen and Baby Falak, India has once again proved that the girl child is still not wanted in developing India. In yet another gruesome incident, a Uttar Pradesh couple has been arrested for trying to bury their one and a half month old baby girl alive in a graveyard. The incident happened in UP's Pilakhuwa town that is located around 100 kilometres from Delhi.

The matter came to light on Wednesday when a trustee who was present at the burial ground heard a baby crying and suspected something. He then alerted the police on the same, who then arrested 35-year-old Bharati Rani and her husband Dinesh Kumar for carrying out this inhumane act. The police also arrested Dinesh's brother who was with the couple at the burial grounds.

According to the police, Bharti buried the child on the advice of a godman who suggested this extreme measure that would ensure that the rest of their children would be protected from serious illnesses in the future. The couple had earlier lost their child due to an incurable illness. Hence, the three had reached the burial ground to obey the godman’s suggestion. The baby was, however, saved due to the alert trustee.

The police is yet to arrest the godman.
