A Raja seeks bail first time since he was jailed in Feb 2011

New Delhi, May 9: Former Telecom Minister and

accused

has applied for bail on grounds of parity considering that former Telecom Secretary Sidharth Behura was granted bail today. Behura was granted bail on a personal surety of Rs 5 lakh and a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh.

The special CBI court has admitted Raja's bail plea and the case will be heard by court on May 11. Raja's bail plea comes hours after Behura got his bail. This makes Raja the only one behind bars in the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam.

This is Raja's first attempt to seek bail. He was arrested on Feb 2, 2011 following his involvement in the 2G spectrum scam on charges of forgery, criminal conspiracy and corruption.

Incidentally, it is Raja's birthday on May 10 and his lawyers have pleaded that a bail would be an ideal gift for their client.
