Hillary confirms US bounty on terror head Hafiz Saeed

Kolkata, May 7: With the eagerly anticipated meeting between West Bengal Chief Minister

and US Secretary of State

currently underway in Kolkata, the issue of FDI in retail and the Teesta Water treaty is touted to be the main highlight of the rendezvous. But with the issue of global

affecting both countries, the matter was emphasised when Hillary stated that the US had indeed announced the bounty for the terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba's founder and Jamat-ud-Dawa's chief

.

The US had earlier engaged in a series of flip flops on the matter regarding the bounty announced on Saeed. Hillary has been quoted as saying in Kolkata during her visit, “I authorised award for Hafiz Saeed who was responsible for attacks in Mumbai. It may take longer than we like but we will stand with you and trying to make that happen. India and US are greatest rebukes to religious discrimination.”

Hafiz Saeed is alleged to be the mastermind behind the Mumbai terror attacks in Nov 2008. Hillary’s latest confirmation on Saeed’s bounty rebuts the earlier statement made by US Ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter who stated on Apr 29 that the US had never made such an offer. He had also added that the Pakistani media had misreported the issue.

Munter had then said, “Pakistani media is very active and responsible but it misreported the issue of Hafiz Saeed. Though Hafiz Saeed is a suspected accused of the Mumbai terror attacks, the US government didn't place any bounty/head money for him."
