K'taka: Sonia Gandhi to win back Lingayats from BJP?

New Delhi, Apr 23: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has decided to woo the powerful Lingayat community to win back from the opponent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While Lingayats are strong supporters of BJP in Karnataka.

According to Karnataka Congress chief G Parameshwara, Sonia will meet the Sri Sri Shivakumara Swami, who is the head of Sree Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur District and will laud him for his 105th birthday.

Earlier, the Lingayats were loyal supporters of Congress but the community shifted its support to the BJP especially the former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa after they felt neglected.

Lingayats and Vokkaligas are the two old caste groups, dominating Karnataka for decades.

Meanwhile, Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa was booted out from the party after he was accused in mining and other bribery charges.
