Kerala cops had no jurisdiction to detain Italian ship: UPA

New Delhi, Apr 20: The Congress-led UPA government on Friday, Apr 20 told the Supreme Court that Kerala police had no authority to detain Italian ship 'Enrica Lexie' or investigate the death of two Indian fishermen as the incident took place on high seas.

The Supreme Court was approached by the Italian government for releasing the two Italian navy guards who were arrested in Kerala for their alleged involvement in the murder of the two Indian fishermen who were guarding an Indian merchant vessel last week off the coast of Kochi.

Meanwhile, sources claimed that the deceased fishermen's kins will receive Rs 1 crore compensation from Italy.
