Beijing, Apr 20: After the war of words on the efficacy of India’s pride, the 5000 km range Agni-V missile that was test-fired on Thursday at the Wheeler Island in Odisha, by Chinese media houses, the Chinese ballistic experts are waking up to the efficiency of the same. A Chinese researcher has commented that the missile "actually has the potential to reach targets 8,000 kilometers away".

The experts are stating that there is more to the missile than what New Delhi claims. A researcher at China's PLA Academy of Military Sciences, Du Wenlong has been quoted as saying to the Global Times that "the Indian government had deliberately downplayed the missile's capability in order to avoid causing concern to other countries".

The high profile Agni-V missile that was test-fired had the capability to target most parts of Asia including China and also Europe. It has the efficiency to hit the target that is more than 5,000 km away.

A professor with the People's Liberation Army National Defense University, Zhang Zhaozhong in an interview with the Global Times stated that according to China's standard, an ICBM should have a range of at least 8,000 km. He added, “The Agni-V's range could be further enhanced to become an Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile.”
