Bengalis asked to shun news channels by Mamata

Mamata also slammed certain TV channels of being extremely critical of her governance and showing it in a bad light. She advised her cadres to refrain from seeing news channels and enjoy music instead.
Mamata has been quoted as saying, “There are two to three television channels of the CPI(M) that you should not watch. Instead listen to songs on other channels.”
She was speaking at a rally after a government function when she made these comments. She added in her fiery speech, “No one can deter Mamata Banerjee in serving you. I will prove to those who are out to tarnish our government through a campaign of lies, wrong. No amount of browbeating or propaganda will help.”
She said that, in spite of the negative publicity, nothing would deter her from bringing development to her people. Mamata had received another boost when she was named one among the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. On the achievement, she said that she did not get the respect she deserved at home.
On the many issues in her state, Mamata said that many people wanted the government to forcibly acquire land of farmers, allow SEZ to come up again and lift the land ceiling, on this, she said, “I will never do so. The people of Bengal do not believe land mafias and looters.”
