Captain Cool MS Dhoni eyeing Rajya Sabha seat?

The JVM proposed Dhoni’s name considering that the two seats are vacant from Jharkhand for which polls are scheduled to be held on May 3. The earlier poll held on Mar 30 was cancelled after a massive fraud was unearthed by the Election Commission and huge amount of money seized to the tune of Rs 2.15 crore from a car in Ranchi.
JVM vice-president and former minister Samaresh Singh has been quoted as saying, “Why not we send to the Rajya Sabha the person under whose leadership India won the cricket World Cup? Dhoni is a son of Ranchi. The other suitable candidate may be former Jharkhand DGP and honest officer Neyaz Ahmed.”
Dhoni’s proximity to Marandi makes the proposal a serious matter within party circles. Marandi had earlier written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi seeking to nominate an apolitical person and a “son of the soil” for the RS polls.
As per JVM sources, informal discussions were held with Dhoni on the matter, with the captain assuring that he would think about the proposal.
