HC issues notice to Odhisa govt on child swap case

Orissa
Cuttack (Odisha), Apr 16: The Orissa High Court today issued notices to the state government and SCB medical college on a petition filed by a person who alleged that his newborn baby boy was swapped in the hospital.

"The division bench headed by Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda has fixed Thursday for the next date of hearing," said petitioner Susanata Mallick's lawyer Gopal Krushna Mohanty.

The petitioner, a native of Asureswar of Cuttack district has claimed that his wife Rashmita had delivered a baby boy in the hospital on Mar 30 but the hospital authorities insisted that she had delivered a baby girl.

Urging the High Court for a direction to the authorities to discharge Rashmita from the hospital along with the baby boy she had delivered, Susanata in his petition had also urged the court to conduct a DNA test to ascertain the parents of the baby girl, lying unclaimed in the hospital.
