Del polls:Elaborate arrangements for Tue's counting of votes

New Delhi, Apr 15: The State Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for counting of votes on Tuesday for the municipal polls in which 55 to 58 per cent of 1.15 crore-strong electorate voted on Sunday.

The counting of votes will take place at 33 locations and the exercise will begin at 8 AM in the morning. State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta said results of all the 272 wards are likely to be known by 3 PM on Wednesday. He said all the Electronic Voting Machines will be transferred to the strong rooms by tonight.

"We have made elaborate arrangements for counting of votes. All results will be made available by 3 PM," he said addressing a press conference. The electoral fate of 2,423 candidates were sealed in the polling for 272 wards of the three civic bodies -- East, South and North -- carved out of the existing Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Mehta said 55 to 58 per cent of 1.15 crore-strong electorate exercised their franchise in the polls.
