Earthquake hits Gujarat, tremors felt in Maharashtra, K'taka

Gujarat, Apr 14: An earthquake measuring 4.5 on Richter scale hit Rapar Taluka area, Kutch, Gujarat with its epicenter on the Bhuj on Saturday at 8:53 am. [UPDATE: Earthquake: After B'lore, Chennai, Guj, tremors hit Kashmir]

Tremors were felt across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Satara, Pune, Nashik, Solapur, Kolapur and Belgaum in Karnataka on Saturday, said reports. Tremors were felt in some parts of Saurashtra as well, said reports.

The epicenter of the earthquake in Western Maharashtra was Satara. No report of damage to property or life has been reported so far.

"Earthquake in Mumbai!! Did you feel it... I did! Shutters and building shook twice for few seconds... All good here... all else?" tweeted Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.

Earlier, an earthquake measuring 8.9 on Richter scale hit Sumatra region, Indonesia. Quakes were also felt in Singapore, Thailand and was centered 33 km beneath the ocean.

A tsunami warning was issued to 28 countries following the earthquake, which was later withdrawn.

Tremors were felt across Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Patna, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar and several other cities situated on the eastern coast of India.
