3 defence chief's in Parl Committee's line of fire

The three defence chief’s will appear before the committee before Apr 20 to answer specific questions on defence preparedness. The meet was felicitated following the leaking of the Army Chief’s letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the serious gaps in the Army’s defence preparedness and the lack of critical ammunition.
In Gen VK Singh’s leaked letter to the PM, he had noted the critical shortfall of ammunition for battle tanks, obsolete air defence weaponry and crippling deficiencies of 'crew-served weapons' in the infantry. He had claimed that the entire air-defence weaponry was obsolete, with the Army still using Soviet-origin air defence guns that was not up to date with changing times in warfare. He added that there were no fresh acquisitions of artillery for over two decades.
