Deliveries to be videographed in Orissa's Cuttack?

The suggestion was made by an advocates committee appointed by the High Court. They made the suggestion after visiting the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack that witnessed the ugly scenes between waring parents that saw a woman refusing to accept a baby girl as her daughter.
The woman in question, named Rashmita Mallick, hailing from nearby Asureswar delivered a baby girl on Mar 30, but created a ruckus in the hospital premises and refused to accept the baby after her mother-in-law claimed that she had seen Rashmita giving birth to a baby boy.
Taking the legal way, Rashmita’s husband had lodged a police complaint. The baby is currently being fed milk from other nursing mothers by hospital nurses.
The committee in lieu of the incident has suggested the hospital authorities to videograph the deliveries in the labour room along with a statement of the mother.
Amicus curie Pravat Ranjan Dash, who is a member of the committee said, “We have also advised the hospital authorities to send footprint impressions of a child for forensic test and introduce the system of maintaining baby tags in the labour room in future.”
