Dangerous K'taka temple ritual: Babies tossed from chariot

Bangalore, Apr 4: It was a very frightful view for those who have never seen children being tossed from chariot. A shocking incident in Bagalkot, Karnataka, may leave one with goose bumps. Children in the village are being tossed from chariot following a temple ritual.

Parents of the children believe that their kids will be healthy if they (children) get blessings from the temple priest sitting on the so called chariot (truck). The priest, who sits atop the chariot, tosses babies below and parents catch their kids using blankets and sheets.

First the village priest performs pooja inside the temple and then takes a ride all around the village. The ritual is performed during the annual festival of the temple.

Similar kind of rituals are being performed in several places in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
