TN: Jayalalithaa to bring 3,000 new buses

Chennai, Apr 1: Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa will spend nearly Rs 540 crore to purchase 3,000 new buses for the passengers and introduced 464 State buses including 389 new ones for various routes in the state.

The buses purchased by the state government have emergency exit. While the financial condition of the transport corporations are not enough to purchase large number of new buses and state government had taken steps to utilise the reusable parts of old buses and rebuild the old ones.

The government has selected 1,432 buses for repair in the first phase, that cost around Rs 97.58 crore.

Currently, the state transport department are operating eight transport corporations and running a total of 20,861 buses.
