Twist in defence row: Sonia, Antony knew of Tatra truck deal

New Delhi, Mar 30: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Defence Minister AK Antony were aware of the Tatra deal, said D Hanumanthappa, president of the Karnataka wing of All India Federation of SC/ST/Backward Class and Minority Employees Welfare Association.

Dropping a new bomb, he said that he had written to Prime Minister Singh and the President about the deal in 2009, said a report in the DNA.

He also alleged that he had sent copies to Sonia Gandhi and the Defence minister and asked Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad that he forward the letter to the concerned department.

Hanumanthappa said that he wanted to strengthen the country's defence forces and save democracy adding that he wrote the letter in detail on the Tatra-BEML deal.

Meanwhile, a FIR has been lodged by the CBI in the case. The FIR includes the name of Ravi Rishi, a London based businessman, the main accused in the case, apart from case against unknown defence personnels and authorities at BEML.
