Kolkata, Mar 26: Asking people to switch off lights for an hour this Saturday night as a symbol of a more sustainable lifestyle, Kolkata too will join the rest of the world in marking the Earth Hour. Being organised by international body WWF, the Earth Hour campaign has got support from Kolkata Municipal Corporation and West Bengal government's environment department.

Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee will flag off the tram tableaux at Curzon Park and observe Earth Hour from 8:30-9:30 pm to raise awareness and inspire individual action towards a better environment. The municipal corporation of Chandernagore will also urge people to switch off lights in Hooghly district.

"We aim to encourage cities to collectively shift towards sustainable development by undertaking better land, water and energy management which will reduce the growing environmental impact of our urban lifestyles," Ravi Singh, secretary general and CEO of WWF-India told reporters.
