West Bengal: Major Fire engulfs Kolkata's oldest market

Kolkata, Mar 22: A major fire engulfed Hatibagan, Kolkata's oldest market at 2.30 am this morning reducing most of the shops in the proximity to ashes, said official sources.

Thirty fire tenders have been rushed to the spot. No casualities have been reported so far.

According to fire brigade officials, shops selling meat, fruits, ghee fish have been affected.

Javed Khan, the fire minister said that the cause of the fire was unknown, adding that the matter is being looked into.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Action Force was deployed and the traffic on roads that lead to the market was controlled.
