Raids: Ex-DMK ministers burning over Jaya-Karuna war

Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi
Chennai, Mar 22: In addition to the list of the names of DMK ministers, who have faced the wrath of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, the food minister of Karunanidhi's regime - EV Velu is the latest victim to have a pitfall.

Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday, Mar 22 informed that they conducted raids on the premises and houses on Mr Velu in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai districts.

The DGCA conducted the raids as Mr Velu has been accused in disproportionate asset case. The former food minister of the state is not the first one experiencing the CM's ire.

Several former DMK ministers and MLAs have been raided earlier either over disproportionate assets or over land denotification cases. Jayalalithaa and her government began their crackdown on Karunanidhi and Co since AIADMK came into power in May 2011.

The latest raids on Mr Velu came just a day after the by-poll results of Sankarankoil where AIADMK nominee S Muthuselvi defeated DMK candidate Jawahar Suryakumar by a massive margin of 68,744 votes.

While Muthuselvi led AIADMK got 94,977 votes; DMK, MDMK, DMDK and BJP received 26,220, 20,678, 12,144 and 1,633 votes, respectively.
