Piravom bypoll: UDF's Anoop Jacob wins by 12,071 votes

A record of 86.3 per cent was recorded in the constituency. The rival, LDF candidate, MJ Jacob had to taste bitter defeat this time around. The bypoll in Kerala was facilitated due to the death of Minister TM Jacob, who is also the father of Anoop Jacob. Following the massive victory, Anoop commented that the success was the result of the joint work of the UDF. He also dedicated his victory to his deceased father.
The death of former Minister TM Jacob saw the strength of the UDF in the Kerala Assembly going down to 71 in the 140 member Assembly. The LDF's count in the Assembly stands at 67 after the recent resignation of Neyyattinkara MLA, Selvraj.
