Filing of FIR soon a click away‎

New Delhi, Mar 21: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday, Mar 21 said that govt will soon launch online registration of First Information Report (FIR) once the server and network gets ready.

"Online registration of First Information Report will be possible once server and network is established by the year end or early next year," said Home Minister P Chidambaram in the Rajya Sabha.

Reacting to the supreme court direction in 2006 on Director General of Police of a State selection, Chidambaram said that government was against selection of Director General of Police of a state by Union Public Service Commission.

Moreover, Chidambaram said that it should be left to the states from among 3-4 senior officers.
