No criminal proceedings against Microsoft India

New Delhi, Mar 19: The Delhi High Court on Monday, Mar 19 quashed criminal proceedings against Microsoft India, one of the 21 websites summoned by a trial court for allegedly hosting objectionable contents with lack of evidence.

Court decision has come after the Microsoft India filed a petition challenging trial court's order initiating criminal proceedings against it for hosting objectionable contents.

Microsoft counsel said to court that no defamatory contents were posted on its company websites and Microsoft India is not a social networking site or search engine.

Accepting the Microsoft plea, court said that Microsoft was not delivering a platform to people to communicate with each other and post their views as company is only engaged in development and sale of the software and computing solutions. Moreover, court said that there is no evidence on record against the company.
