Ramlila: Trouble for Delhi policemen, UPA to take action

New Delhi, Mar 15: Facing flak over the Midnight crackdown, UPA government on Wednesday, Mar 14, said that stern action would be taken against the erring police personnel who were involved in the crackdown on Baba Ramdev and his supporters at the Ramlila Ground on Jun 4, 2011.

During question hour in the Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram responded to BJP member Prakash Javadekar, said that FIR had been registered at Kamla Market Police Station on Mar 9 and action will be taken against those who committed the immoral act.

Reminding Javadekar, Chidambaram said that Supreme Court had noted that some of the police personnel were helpful with the members of the assembly in abandoning the ground while some others were violent.

Chidambaram praised the Supreme Court's judgement, While Javadekar pointed out that 5,000 police personnel cane-charged 10,000 protestors who were sleeping at the Ground. "There was no reason for provocation and yet the protestors were beaten up," Javadekar added.
