CPI(M) claims 38 farmers committed suicide in Bengal

Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, Mar 13: The CPI(M) on Tuesday took a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for calling 'Krishak Diwas' (Farmers' Day) on Wednesday, when farmer suicides were taking place at the state.

"The chief minister has called for observing Krishak Diwas on Wednesday at a time when 38 farmers have committed suicide in the state," CPI(M) politburo member Biman Bose told reporters here.

Bose claimed that farmers across the state were suffering due to non-availability of remunerative prices of their produce and inability to sell and repay their loans.

Briefing reporters after a Left Front meeting, Bose said that Left Front workers will shortly launch protests in rural areas against price rise of urea and malfunctioning of some panchayats.
