Balachandran
Chennai, Mar 12: If the instances of the Lankan atrocity stunned the world, this piece of news is sure to do more than just stun. A new video has emerged that shows the dead body of Balachandran, 12-year-old son of slain Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief Velupillai Prabhakaran. The image shows five bullet holes in the boy’s chest. [UPDATE: Prabhakaran son's killing: Gruesome video screened]

The video released by Britain's Channel 4 could dent a hole in the Sri Lankan claims that there were not involved in mass massacre of innocent civilians. The explicit footage is being screened at the FIFDH film festival in Geneva and is expected to be aired by Channel 4 on Wednesday at 10.55 pm (04.25 IST Thursday). The footage dated May 18, 2009 is definitely set to cause a huge uproar. [UPDATE: Karunanidhi to take avenge over friend's (LTTE Chief) son's death?]

The video is understood to be a 'trophy video' shot by Sri Lankan troops during the cold blooded hounding of Prabhakaran and family at the far end of the Eelam war. [UPDATE: Prabakaran's son killing video authentic, claims Channel 4]

Reporting on the brutal video released, Independent of UK stated that the boy must have been shot at close range. Besides the body of the boy, there were also bodies of five men, considered to be his bodyguards. There were also pieces of clothing visible that could denote that they were blindfolded before being executed. As per the report that quoted forensic pathologist Professor Derrick Pounder, who was quoted as saying, “it was possible the boy was made to watch the execution of his bound and blindfolded guards before the gun was turned on him.” [UPDATE: LTTE Chief Prabhakaran's son grilled before being killed?]

The professor in yet another damning claim stated, “There is a speckling from propellant tattooing, indicating that the distance of the muzzle of the weapon to this boy’s chest was two to three feet or less. He could have reached out with his hand and touched the gun that killed him." [UPDATE: Kani wants justice for Prabhakaran's son]

Following the release of the video, Global Tamil Forum spokesperson Suren Surendiran said, “This is further evidence to prove that the Sri Lankan government including President Rajapaksa and his brothers and the highest ranking military officials are complicit in committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
