Rahul fails to charm UP; shamed by Congress' performance

Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Congress spokesperson has been quoted as saying, "It's baffling if this is true." Congress was trailing in the third place and is likely to fall short of the expected 120 seats. The UP poll result was seen as a indication of Rahul's political future.
The Congress has also lost its face in Uttarakhand and Punjab, with the Akali-BJP combine in Punjab likely to form the government and BJP-Congress all set to have a fight to the finish.
The Samajwadi Party's sweep has come as a pleasant surprise to star campaigner Akhilesh Yadav, son of projected CM Mulayam Singh Yadav. A victory for the party that was chosen as the people's mandate for the polls. The Congress also lost out on the party's bastion in Amethi and Rae Baraeli as well.
Singhvi added, "Not even Rahul Gandhi's worst enemies, political or otherwise, suggest that his leadership was lacking. He was outstanding. He's gone to every nook and cranny, he's provided the spirit, the euphoria, the leadership - if it doesn't translate, then it doesn't translate."
