Punjab Polls: Ex-Indian hockey capt Pargat defeats Congress

Jalandhar, Mar 6: Defeating Congress, former Indian Hockey Captain Pargat Singh has won the assembly elections from Jalandhar Cantt constituency on a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ticket.

While, Sansarpur village is a part of the Jalandhar Cantt constituency called as Indian Hockey's nursery. Pargat bagged 48290 votes defeated Congress' candidate Jagbir Brar with a margin of 7798 votes.

During the election campaigning, Pargat always talked about hockey. Sukhbir Badal, the Akali Dal (SAD) president persuaded Pargat to contest the elections.

Pargat Singh has played in Mithapur and Sansarpur villages, now he contested the Punjab assembly elections from that place and won the elections.
