Mulayam jubilant after results; Holi comes early in SP camp
Star campaigner Akhilesh Yadav, son of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was the one person credited to take the party to such a favourable position. Placed marginally short of the half way mark in the 403-member assembly, the party had expected to win 200 votes. Their winning streak punched back Mayawati and Congress to the dark alley of oblivion.
The projected CM for the SP, Mulayam Singh Yadav also joined the jubilation at the Samajwadi Party office on Vikramaditya Marg, Lucknow. Akhilesh's knack to connect with the masses during his campaign even shadowed the star power of Rahul Gandhi and others.
A small group of men embarked on bicycle ride, that is the election symbol of the Samajwadi party. Among the most popular slogans doing the rounds include, "Jiska Jalwa Kayam hai, Uska Naam Mulayam hai" (Whose kingdom is thriving, His name is Mulayam) and "Desh ki Shaan Mulayam Singh" (The pride of the nation is Mulayam Singh).
As a prelude to the impending victory, the Lucknow Development Authority has begun revamping the Lohia park in Gomtinagar, named after Mulayam Singh's mentor Ram Manohar Lohia. The park was in a sorry state after the BSP came into power with much focus on erecting the statues of BSP symbol, elephant, Mayawati and BSP mentor Kanshi Ram.
The offices of BSP and Congress on Mall Avenue and of the BJP respectively at the Vidhan Sabha Marg appeared deserted with only a handful of office bearers turning up to the premises.
