KNPP agitation received Rs 36 cr from foreign NGOs?

New Delhi, Mar 6: Close on the heels of Kudankulum row, the four non-governmental organisations have been found to have links with the agitation carried against the Kundankulam nuclear plant. The agitation allegedly received Rs 36.37 crore as foreign donations from 2006 to 2011.

Under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 16 other NGOs have also came in the light. On the basis of investigation, the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy is not there in the list of NGOs.

But SP Udayakumar, its coordinator is part of foreign donations of one of the NGOs that had received funds from Sweden.

The NGOs that have received the funds are Tuticorin Diocesan Association, Good Vision Charitable Trust, Trust for Rural Uplift and Education, Rural Uplift Center.

Meanwhile the Centre had asked the CBI to investigate the Tuticorin association and Rural Center whose bank accounts have been frozen after discrepancies came in the limelight.

However, It has been found that the Tuticorin association received Rs 20.1 crore and the rural center received Rs 13.4 crore as foreign contributions from 2006-2011.
