Kingfisher misses tax dept deadline; more bank A/Cs frozen

Bangalore, Mar 3: The service tax department on Saturday, Mar 3 blocked more bank accounts of cash-strapped Kingfisher airlines for missing the deadline for clearing the pending dues, said reports.

Sources from Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC), the apex body that administers indirect taxes said that cash-starved Kingfisher had a deadline of Feb 29 to clear Rs 10 crore service tax, but reportedly it could not meet the given deadline following which tax department froze more accounts.

The Vijay Mallya owned airlines has been accused of taking service tax from its customers by selling air tickets and not paying it to the department.

Moreover, the income-tax (IT) department has also blocked the airlines bank accounts for non-payment of TDS (tax deducted at source) dues of over Rs 300 crore.
