B'lore: 'WonderLa drowned girl lay in water for 15-20 mins'
The victim's friends from Matha English School, RT Nagar told the Bidadi police that she was lying motionless inside the water for 15 to 20 minutes and no lifeguards were present on the spot when she drowned between 1.30pm and 2pm.
On the other hand, the WonderLa authorities said that their lifeguards had pulled out Shabarin, the victim within 15 seconds of her falling into the pool.
Over 140 students were taken to WonderLa water theme park for picnic from Matha English School, RT Nagar. The Bidadi police station had recorded the statements of the four children.
When the cops asked the children that how they are sure of the time, the children replied to the police that "We first heard a guard saying a girl is lying facedown for nearly 20 minutes and the school authorities were unaware of it. We then looked into the pool and found that it was none other than Shabarin. She was lying motionless, facedown. A teacher then rushed and pulled out the girl with help from the guards."
"The incident happened between 1.30pm and 2pm. We finished our lunch around 1pm and immediately went to the pool. A little later, we saw Shabarin fighting for rubber tube with others," said the eyewitnesses.
The children informed the police that Shabarin died in the park itself, not at the hospital.
"Around 3pm, we were asked to go back to the bus and all of us rushed out of WonderLa," they said.
"We will give details once inquiry is over," said B Bhaskar, inspector.
