Lalu Prasad Yadav, others sink in fodder scam

Lalu Prasad Yadav
Patna, Mar 1: More trouble seem to be in the offing for former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav when the CBI court framed charges against Lalu, Jagannath Mishra and ruling JDU MP Jagdish Sharma with regards to the multi-crore fodder scam.

Fresh charges were also framed against former RJD MP R K Rana in connection with the case. The charges were slapped by CBI Judge V K Srivastava.

The fodder scam was one of the biggest instances of corruption during the time that saw fraudulent withdrawals of around Rs 46 lakh by state animal husbandry department officials from Banka and Bhagalpur treasuries through fake enforced bills between 1994-96.

When the fodder scam came to light, Lalu Yadav was the CM of Bihar. He has however claimed that he was framed in the case and that the "CBI had not procured gubernatorial nod for prosecution in this case."

The CBI had earlier charge sheeted them in this conspiracy angle case on Mar 3, 2003.
