Corruption at its peak in C'garh, engg worth Rs 70 million!

Raipur, March 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday, Feb 29 raided an assistant engineer and found him to be having assets worth Rs 70 million. The raids were conducted at Raipur and Baloda Bazar town.

The engineer is employed with the water resources department in Chattisgarh.

Talking to the journalists, DM Awasthi, Additional Director General said, "The ACB sleuths raided two locations -- Raipur and Baloda Bazar town -- of the assistant engineer Purshotam Agrawal and seized several documents yesterday (Wednesday)."

"We are analyzing the documents and so far we found that the official has amassed assets not less than Rs7 crore (Rs.70 million)," said Awasthi. The disproportionate sources of income may go higher once ACB completes the analysis of the seized documents, he added.

The accused engineer started his work as a sub-engineer in 1980 and was given promotion to the post of assistant engineer in 1993.
