Chennai: Mumbai police helps Jaya; to probe encounter case

Chennai, Feb 28: A team of Mumbai cops finally reached Chennai to investigate the controversial encounter case in which five people were allegedly killed by Chennai police. The group of cops from Mumbai reached Jayalalithaa's city on Tuesday, Feb 28.

According to sources, the cops will investigate the profiles of all deceased - Vinod Kumar, Chandrika Ray, Harish Kumar, Vinay Prasad (from Bihar) and Abhay Kumar (West Bengal). However, it has already been confirmed that Vinod Kumar was involved in three bank robbery cases in Mumbai reported in 2010.

The 5 were killed in a police encounter in Velachery, Chennai in the wee hours of Thursday. Here it can be mentioned that on Feb 20, Rs 14 lakh was looted by four armed men from a branch of Indian Overseas Bank at Keelkattalai. In another incident, the Bank of Baroda branch near Perungudi was stripped off of Rs 19 lakh by four armed men on Jan 23.
