Cong accuses Mayawati govt in multi-billion-rupee NRHM scam

Uttar Pradesh, Feb 26: Reacting sharply to National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh, Congress Party has accused Mayawati led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government of trying to hide the truth in the multi-billion-rupee scam.

Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said that "Uttar Pradesh is steeped in corruption. This (National Rural Health Mission scam) is a big example, which the government is trying to defend."

Earlier, on Feb 25, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had raided 27 places including residences, offices and bank lockers of 23 former Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) in several districts of Uttar Pradesh in connection with the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam.

Meanwhile, BSP supremo Mayawati has cited political pressure on the CBI for carrying out multiple raids on UP officials connecting to the NRHM scam.

Accusing the Congress-led UPA government of conspicuously using its undue influence on the CBI to rush through the case, BSP supremo told an election rally here that "it is pretty evident that the centre is misusing CBI for its own political mileage".
