Modi govt's mum, SC raps for probe panel head's appointment

After the former apex court judge Justice M B Shah expressed his inability to continue his tenure on the grounds of health and personal reasons, Bombay High Court Chief Justice K R Vayas was appointed in his place.
A bench of Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai said that "We should also have been told about the proposal for the appointment of new chairman."
Ranjit Kumar, Senior advocate and Tushar Mehta, Gujarat's additional advocate general told the reporters that the notification for the appointment of Justice K R Vayas was issued on Thursday, Feb 23, as Shah has denied to continue his on the basis of the apex court's order.
"You (Gujarat government) have unnecessarily complicated the matter. You should have come to us. You should have waited. This concerns our order. You should have brought this fact to our notice," the bench said.
