Chennai encounter: Killed robber found alive in Bihar

New Delhi, Feb 24: The National Human Rights Commission on Friday, Feb 24 issued notices to Tamil Nadu Director General of Police and Chennai District Magistrate seeking detailed report of the encounter and questioned the authenticity of the same, where Tamil Nadu police shot dead five people suspected to be involved in robberies at two suburban bank branches on Feb 22 late night.

Moreover, the Bihar government also asked Tamil Nadu government to probe the killing of the five.

According to a Headlines Today report, one of the suspected robber, who have been identified by police as Chandrikhare Rai from Bihar, who was killed in the encounter, was found to be alive in his residence in Maujipur Village of Patna.

The report further claimed that Rai earned his living by driving truck and there was no one else by his name other than him in the village, Maujipur in Patna, Bihar.

Meanwhile, the question rises who was the deceased who had been identified by the police as Rai.

Chennai police shot dead the five on Feb 22 midnight in a gun battle in a Chennai residential locality. The dead has been identified as Vinodkumar, Vinaykumar, Harishkumar, Abheykumar and Chandrikhare. While Chandrikhare was from Bihar, the others were from West Bengal.

Police claimed the five people had been staying in a rented apartment, claiming to be students, and they were linked to bank robberies in Chennai since January.
