Kerala HC allows Italian ship to leave port on 25L guarantee

Thiruvananthapuram , Feb 22: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday, Feb 22 said that the Italian ship Enrica Lexie, whose two sailors namely Latorre Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone had allegedly shot dead two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast on Wednesday, Feb 15, could leave Kochi Port after paying Rs 25 lakh as guarantee.

Moreover, court said that ship could leave the Kochi port only after probing agencies gave it clearance.

Meanwhile, Italian counterpart demanded a joint probe into the killing of the fishermen, reiterating that the incident occurred in international waters.

Earlier, the wife of one of the victims had filed a petition in the Kerala High Court seeking Rs 1 crore compensation and detention of the ship till the sum was paid.
