2G: Subramanian Swamy hurls new bomb on Karunanidhi & DMK

New Delhi, Feb 22: Janata Party chief, Subramanain Swamy hurled another attack on DMK chief M Karunanidhi and his party men saying that one of the DMK ministers have been harassing 2G spectrum scam witnesses. Swamy allegations against the DMK minister came in the limelight following a letter which has been sent by Swamy to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday, Feb 20.

In his letter to the PM, Swamy claimed that minister of state (Tamil Nadu) for finance who belongs to DMK, S S Palanimanickam has been harassing the witnesses with help of officials of several government departments including income tax, customs and central excise.

Swamy accused the DMK minister while writing, "I am getting reports that on the directions given by Shri S S Palanimanickam, the officers of these wings of the department are harassing witnesses of the 2G spectrum case. Incidents have come to my knowledge that officers have gone to the residences and work places of relatives of the witnesses with a message that these relatives should give statements against the witnesses to the effect that the witnesses hold income excess to their known sources of income."

"The officers of customs & central excise department have also been misused by Shri S S Palanimanickam to threaten the relatives of witnesses who are doing businesses in various places," added Swamy.

Accusing Kanimozhi, daughter of Karunanidhi and one of the main accused in the spectrum scam, Swamy claimed, "These acts of Shri S S Palanimanickam appear to be to help Ms Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, daughter of the DMK president. By pressurizing the witnesses, the aim is to derail the process of fair trial in the 2G spectrum case."

Here it can be mentioned that Swamy is one of the key petitioners in the second generation telecom spectrum scam.
