UP: Mayawati's friend Ponty's raids information leaked

New Delhi, Feb 17: The Central Bureau of Direct Tax (CBDT) said that an investigation will be conducted on the leakage of the information on Income Tax department’s raids about the properties of liquor baron Ponty Chadha.

The CBDT has transferred its official SS Rana for allegedly mishandling the raids conducted on Ponty Chadha's properties.

According to the media reports, Chadha has connections with Uttar Pradesh's Orai-based mining mafia head Sukhdev Singh after Rs 1.5 crore was recovered from Sukhdev's office.

On Feb 3, the IT department had seized worth Rs 15 crore and sealed ten bank lockers of Chadha.

Sources claimed that the department had sent two laptops for forensic examination. Apart from that, it is scrutinizing the transaction bills worth Rs 600 crore, papers of mining leases in UP and other investments of Chadha.

The raids had been conducted at 13 locations in Delhi, while at six locations in Moradabad, Noida and Lucknow.
