DU screens 'controversial' documentary on Kashmir
New Delhi, Feb 16: 'Jashn-e-Azadi', a controversial documentary on Kashmir which ran into trouble in a Pune campus, was today screened at Delhi University amid protests by ABVP activists who alleged that the film by Sanjay Kak was anti-national.
The screening of the documentary was organised by All India Students Association (AISA) at the Sociology Department of the Delhi University. Two groups -- one by ABVP and another of Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena -- held demonstrations outside the venue as they were prevented from entering it by police who were deployed in the campus.
Protesting the screening, ABVP Delhi secretary Rohit Chahal alleged the documentary was "anti-national" and it depicted Army in poor light. ABVP members also said the documentary did not have Censor Board certification and it cannot be screened in public.
However, Sudha Vasan, a professor in Sociology Department, said since the screening was for students, censor board certification was not needed. The documentary could not be screened in Pune's Symbiosis campus following protest by ABVP activists.
