Airport
Chennai, Feb 15: Chennai is soon likely to get its second airport at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, said Airports Authority of India chairman VP Agrawal.

"Chennai will be the first city in the country to have two international airports," he said.

According to a plan proposed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport would accommodate at least 5 million passengers every year.

"Land acquisition is on for several projects, including the airport," said Hanish Chhabra, Kancheepuram district collector.

The AAI also plans to build control and approach towers at Sriperumbudur, while Chennai ATC would take care of air traffic.

Agrawal said that a proposal was submitted to the state government by the authority for the development of the greenfield airport and the plans for the same would be soon announced.
