Khurshid's Batla tears statement annoys Congress

Salman Khurshid
New Delhi, Feb 11: The major political party, Congress have expressed anger over Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid's remarks on Sonia Gandhi that she wept bitterly on seeing Batla House encounter images.

Khurshid's remarks where he dragged Sonia Gandhi into the Batla House issue made Congress angry, Sources claimed.

"I was not a minister at that time but still took the issue of the Batla encounter to Sonia Gandhi and she had tears in her eyes," Khurshid had said.

Meanwhile, Khurshid's controversial statement at an election meeting was seen an apparent bid to woo Muslims voters.

Speaking to media, Khurshid said, "You have twisted my words out of context. I didn't say she (Sonia Gandhi) cried, I said she became emotional. She said the matter should be probed."

A month back, Khurshid was in the headlines for another controversial statement over sub-quota for minorities.

Last month, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh had reiterated that Batla House encounter was a fake one and stood by his demand for judicial inquiry into the issue.

Police had killed two men in the encounter, whom they thought were Indian Mujahideen terrorists hiding in a flat in Delhi's Batla house in Azamgarh.
